In dental implantology, the charm of putting teeth immediately after dental implant placement led to the introduction and popularity of basal implants technology
In Basal implants, specially designed implants are used that are anchored in basal bone (this is the area of jaw bone that remains even after extreme resorption of jaw bone). The claimed advantages of basal implants over traditional dental implants include:

basal implants technology
  • There is no waiting time. The artificial teeth can be put immediately after implant treatment.
  • Basal Implants can be done in “no bone” cases hence there is no need for any bone grafting. So no bone augmentation, no sinus lift.
  • No need for grafting saves additional costs

Limitations of basal Implantology

  • The time for surgical procedure for basal implants is slightly longer since implant placement and measurements for crowns needed to be recorded in the same appointment.
  • The crowns are placed while the gums are still in an inflammatory stage caused by implant placement. Now when the gums finally heal, they shrink creating a gap between the gum and crown margins where food gets stuck up.
  • The cosmetic results with basal crowns are not as great as with traditional implants.
  • The crowns placed with basal implants are temporary and they need to be changes after 2 years.
  • In basal implantology, all crowns are joined together in one unit. In case there is any issue then the whole bridge needs to be removed and replaced.

Cost of Basal Implants

  • Basal Implants are similar to traditional implants in pricing.

Every technology has its own sets of pros and cons and so is basal implantology. Though quite recently introduced, basal implants in India are slowly gaining popularity. The decision to use any particular type of implant in any particular type of clinical case is the sole discretion of the treating dentist.
